FRIDAY 18th FEBRUARY

Anton Browne
With
Sam Walker and Terry Pack
Anton Browne

Anton Browne - Vocals, guitar, drum

Sam Walker - Keys and Saxophone

Terry Pack - Double Bass

Anton Browne is a legend. Anyone who attened out first Strange Fruit will will agree he has an incredible vocal range and quality.

Hardly surprising as he's been teaching at The BRIT School since it opened in 1991 and was Professor of Jazz Voice at Trinity College of Music (now Trinity-Laban) and was vocal coach on tour with BBC Television's ‘The Voice’ Series 1.

Early songwriting influences were the heavy rock bands of the 70’s - Deep Purple in particular (guitar was his main instrument) - and riff-based songs still interest him. He then discovered funk, soul and much crossover music. Influences were Kool & The Gang, Bobby Caldwell, Steeley Dan, Michael Franks.

He went on to enjoy the writing of Al Jarreau / Jay Graydon and when he started to study singing, he enrolled on a Jazz Singing course and was introduced to The Great American Songbook and the high quality jazz standards. Other influences include Joni Mitchell, The Eagles, some calypso and reggae artists and some Brazilian musicians, notably Airto Moreira.

Anton will be supported on the night by our regular maestros, Sam Walker and Terry Pack.

“O’Higgins plays with quite exceptional fluency and his fund of ideas never runs out.”
The Observer

Dave O’Higgins’ tenor and soprano sax sounds are highly personal and recognisable, with a clear sense of melodic development and adventure. A popular performer with the public, with an excellent sense of pacing and presentation, he has a wide palette from Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane, Joe Henderson through to Stanley Turrentine and Michael Brecker. He has relentlessly pursued artistic and sonic exploration and development with a deep respect for the tradition of the music.

Dave has worked with some of the world’s finest musicans, including: Joey Calderazzo, Joe Locke, Dave Kikowski, Eric Alexander, Grant Stewart, Max Ionata, Phil Dwyer, Adam Nussbaum, Joe Lovano, Phil Woods, Jimmy Smith, Nancy Wilson, Peggy Lee, Kurt Elling, Wayne Shorter, Eddie Gomez, Billy Childs, Abdullah Ibrahim, Chico Chagas, Stephane Grappelli, Michel Legrand. He has released 20 CDs as leader to date. He also wrote and produced the last Matt Bianco album, “Gravity”.

Dave will be supported on the night by our regular maestros, Sam Walker and Terry Pack.

The trio have so far released four albums that evoke the glamour of 1940s Hollywood with their first album earning them a gold disc for album sales.

With fellow Trinity College students Stephanie and Marcella, Kate has made numerous performances on TV and radio, most notably The Royal Variety Show where Prince Charles declared to the girls in person that he was a big fan.
